In November 2021, at a meeting of the Board of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum, it was decided to award the city of Kazan with the status of "Youth Capital - 2022". This status for the first time has been assigned to a Russian city located in an OIC observer country.

The status of the OIC Youth Capital will allow to host throughout the year a number of major events with the involvement of young leaders from various activity areas of activity, as well as international organizations, youth groups and public opinion leaders from the OIC countries. All of that will positively affect the image of the Russian Federation and expand the role of young people in achieving common global targets.
